New Roles for School Libraries – short online course

The Oodi Library in Helsinki was one of the key social development projects of the Helsinki Municipality & Finnish state. Finnish libraries have been an old traditional social innovation in Finland supporting Finnish language, reading and literacy. Oodi has been awarded the best library in the world in 2019, got more than 3 million visitors in the first year, and contributed to the record of 9 million visitors for all libraries in Helsinki, a city with 650 000 inhabitants.

Target group

  • Librarians of schools and municipalities
  • Teachers of mainstream, vocational and adult education
  • Teacher trainers, careers officers, educational guides and counsellors
  • Headmasters/principals/managers of schools and organisations offering adult education or vocational education

This course will include 4 modules, 3 LIVE sessions of 90 min

5 August from 5 to 7.00 pm Helsinki Time (EET)

The short online course is organised as of 16hourse of activity, 6 hours in synchronous Learning and 10 in peer and self directed learning ( on your own pace)

Module 1- Multiliteracy, 21st century competencies
Module 2- Makerspace, digital access to all
Module 3- A space for wellbeing, libraries supporting families and communities ( sports, wellness, wellbeing, supporting a more positive school culture
Module 4- Harvesting, creating local projects

This course is an Action or Experience Based Learning (Kolb) course, coaching model applied, you will work on your own context and develop your own local prototyping idea. Peer work will accelerate your learning.
